REVIEW FROM THE WINEFRONT
Harkham wines are typically iconoclastic in the best sense. Reimagined Hunter Valley wines that march to their own beat, and excite for such. And geez, they have come in leaps and bounds to a high water mark in their own way. This shiraz is certified Kosher, and preservative free. A label tweak has occurred.
It’s meaty and kind of rich but also feels ultra pure, savoury, laced with game meat and dried herbs, garrigue almost, caraway seed woody bitterness, with pepper and blood orange acidity lifting the wine well. Lots of rich, but tart cherry fruitiness in all that too. Slips along the palate in its medium weight way, finds a sheath of quality, crushed rock tannin and extends beautifully then lingers with spice and moreish, mouth-watering amaro like acidity and freshness. A semblance of great au naturale wines of Rhone, but does so in its own stride. How wonderful.
